Belly Laughs

I dare you not to laugh at this video. Go on! Try.

Jackson likes to come at me full-force with mouth open and chew on my face. He only does it to me and we can't figure out why. This time he actually got me and I was wiping the drool off my nose. He thought it was hilarious. This video is almost two months old, and I still laugh at it like it happened yesterday. Moments like this make you forget about the swollen ankles, middle of the night feedings, temper tantrums and difficult meal times. THIS is what it's all about.

Beach Week

Since 1988 the Gallagher clan has been going to Holden Beach, NC. It's a quiet, little island about an hour south of Wilmington (where I was born). This was Jackson's first trip to the beach and boy did he love it! He wasn't too sure about the sand at first, but he grew to love it (read: get it everywhere!). He also loved meeting his Uncle Eli for the first time. Here are a few pics from our fun FUN FUN trip!

Jackson's first flight. He did REALLY well. Such a trooper. He just curled up on me and slept the whole way. We could not have asked for a better baby traveler.

"OK, guys. I'm ready for the beach!"

"This sand feels funny."

Hooray! A photo with all three of us! Taken at Betty's in Supply, NC. Home of the World's Best Hushpuppies. I don't think that's their official title, but it should be.

After having lunch with Uncle Eli at Jackson's Big Oak BBQ in Wilmington. I've been going here since I was a kid. This place, hands down, has the best Carolina barbeque in the world! And, for all you KC folks, Oklahoma Joe's is the only place in town that sells Carolina barbeque.... and it's pretty close.

This was our last day. We stopped in Southport, NC to eat at a little thai restaurant I went to as a kid. I thought it might be fun to take the ferry from Southport to Wilminton, but alas, we missed the ferry. Oh well, there's always next time.

There are lots more pics, but these are just the highlights. We had a fantastic time and can't wait until the next big trip!

Crawling!

Jackson started crawling while we were at the beach. July 13th to be exact. The ball he's chasing is the ball I was referring to in the previous post. Funny, Elroy plays the exact same way.

I love when he moves his monkey to the side as if to say "Look out, Monkey! I'm on the move!"

4(ish) Months in 4(ish) Minutes

First thing's first: apologies. So anyone who cares about this blog probably knows how crazy the past four months have been. The highlights include my taking (and passing with flying colors) my last two in-class MBA classes - they were doozies, that’s for sure! - graduation, a trip to Independence to celebrate Christmas 2009, many birthdays for all of Jackson’s friends (and a few of our grown up friends too), a whole lot of homework, and a little bit of travel. More on all of these topics later. In any event, I apologize for slacking off and will make an effort to update more timely. Sorry again.

In the interest of time, we’ll fast forward through the past four months with the following abridged blog entry.

4(ish) Months in 4(ish) Minutes

6 month stats:

Weight: 17lbs 6oz
Height: 25”

New Tricks:

  • Sits up on his own completely
  • Rolls from back to belly and gets stuck since he won’t go belly to back… and hasn’t since the night I proclaimed he was Harvard bound!
  • Has to have his arms out of his swaddle to sleep. We’re finally done with swaddling!
  • Has begun to get up on his knees during Tummy Time.
  • He (and I) graduated from Baby Sing and Sign. Studies have shown that signing with your child allows them to communicate before they’re able to form the words using language skills. We had fun, that’s what’s important.

7 month stats:

Weight: 18lbs 5oz
Height: 26.5”

New Tricks:

  • The first “mama.” I’m not entirely sure it was directed at me, but I’ll count it. He babbles “mama mama mama mama” all the time, so I try to answer as much as I can and say things like “That’s me! I’m Mama!”
  • Started swimming lessons. He’s living up to his last name.
  • While up on his knees he rocks back and forth.
  • Battled and won his first war with an ear infection. Goooo Jackson!

8 month stats:

Weight: 19lbs 8oz
Height: 27”

New Tricks:

  • Rolling is the preferred method of transportation.
  • Very adept at “plank” position. He won’t settle for hands and knees, now it’s hands and feet. Still no forward progress. If he moves, it’s backwards.
  • Has taken a definite interest in the dogs… especially their mouths, which is troublesome.
  • Is happy to play on his own while I finish getting dressed in the mornings. I sit him on the floor in his room (which my bathroom is right next to) and he plays with his toys and sings songs. He’s got a beautiful voice.
  • Preferred method of communication is shrieking.
  • CRAWLING! Jackson started crawling while we were at the beach. The exact date, just so we have it for posterity, was July 13th. And since crawling is too pedestrian, about a day later he started pulling up and “cruising” as they call it. For those of you without kids, “cruising” is when they hold on to inanimate objects for balance and walk around them, ie, the coffee table. Oh, and just so I properly document this, his crawling style is on both hands, one knee and one foot. He’s also fond of the gorilla walk – two hands and two feet. They’re equally darling.

9 month stats:

Weight: 20lbs 4oz
Height: 27 3/4”

New Tricks:

  • Prefers to drink his milk out of a straw now instead of a bottle
  • Uses “Mama” and “Dada” accurately and often. I hear “Mamamamamamama” when he wakes up in his crib in the morning.
  • Is trying to climb the stairs
  • Will follow you around the house crawling
  • His favorite toy right now is his small soccer ball. He’ll bounce it, crawl after it, bounce it again, and crawl after it as it rolls away. Lather, rinse, repeat.

There’s so much more to share, but I’m sure I’m over the allotted 4 minutes. Thanks for bearing with me through this long post. Shorter, more frequent ones to follow.
